Corpsmembers, Corps Academy students and their children gathered on the particularly windy morning of December 16 to celebrate the season. The gusts even blew Santa and Mrs. Claus in for the occasion.
Santa Ana winds were no match for Santa Claus, who arrived at the festivities amid pastries and cookies, crafts and coloring. The line, which formed very quickly after that, stretched across the room as parents and children alike waited eagerly for their turn to share their wishes with the season’s merriest representative.
The OCCC received hundreds of gifts from Toys for Tots to distribute to corpsmembers’ children that day. Staff and corpsmembers spent many hours volunteering, sorting and wrapping. Corpsmember Levi Plummer said he wants to get very good at it so he can earn some extra money next year as a gift wrapper.
All that work paid off when those children’s eyes filled with awe at the stacks of gifts. Some of the kids held on to their presents, still wrapped, as they sat on Santa’s lap, as if not wanting to spoil the surprise too early.
