OCCC staff members took a field trip on October 5 to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC) in Laguna Beach. PMMC rescues, rehabilitates and releases marine mammals along the coast of Orange County. We learned about what they do and visited their current occupants, half a dozen playful seals and sea lions, including the playful and curious Sage, pictured below.
The PMMC staff also taught us how our recycling projects help keep trash out of the oceans, where marine life can mistake plastics for food or get tangled in human-made debris. If you would like to visit, the Pacific Marine Mammal Center gives free tours to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Check out their website here for more information or click here to view more cute pictures on their Facebook page.
